AUSTSWIM

Kemp Aquatics offer a range of AUSTSWIM Accredited training programs to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to become an accredited AUSTSWIM Teacher.

Pre-requisites:

  • Candidates may enrol into an AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course at 16 years of age but are not eligible to become an accredited AUSTSWIM Teacher until they are 17 years of age.
  • Candidates are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability.

Courses:

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety

Provides candidates with essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety to persons from four years of age to adults in swimming pools and confined natural shallow water venues.

Duration: 16 hours

Content:

  • Overview of AUSTSWIM and the aquatic industry
  • Legal reponsibilities for the AUSTSWIM teacher
  • How people learn
  • Being an effective teacher
  • Aquatic safety, survival and rescue skills
  • Principles of movement in water
  • Water familiarisation, buoyancy, mobility and safety
  • Teaching safer diving skills
  • Towards efficient stroke development
  • Plan, deliver and review a lesson

Extension Courses:

If you also want to teach specialist aquatic programs you can then choose from the following extension courses:

Note: Candidates may enrol into an extension course but cannot be issued the extension AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence until after they have been issued the AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence in Teaching Swimming and Water Safety.

 

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Preschool Aquatics

Provides canidates with competencies to deliver safe and enjoyable aquatic activity programs for children between the age of 6 months and 48 months.

Duration: 7.5 hours

  • Methods of water familiarisation

Provides candidates with the competencies to bridge the gap between the teaching and coaching of swimming.

AUSTSWIM Professional Development

Kemp Aquatics are committed to helping you maintain your qualifications and provide all teachers with the opportunity to increase their knowledge base.
Professional Development is offered at all Kemp Aquatics AUSTSWIM courses.
1/2 day - 09:00am - 01:00pm = 5hrs PD             Full day - 09:00am - 05:00pm = 10hrs PD.
Kemp Aquatics can assist you and your facility or school with professional development by tailoring workshops to your requirements. These workshops are all AUSTSWIM approved and contribute to satisfying your AUSTSWIM Licence Renewal requirements with regards to professional development.
An AUSTSWIM accreditation™ is valid for 3 years and needs to be renewed prior to the expiry date to remain current. Your expiry date can be found on your AUSTWIM Teacher Licence.
RE-Registration Requirements:
10hrs PD in the last 3 years
40hrs Teaching
CPR -  (CPR component is only valid for 12 months)
